Fetish Factory or Cabaret of the Dead or

What an odd little movie this turned out to be. From what I can surmise, this was a movie that was then turned into a book? I’m not entirely sure here. Our resident Shawna read the book and found out that it was also a movie. Written (book as well) and directed by Staci Layne Wilson, Fetish Factory/Cabaret of the Dead is honestly…not great. It kills me to say that. Premise wise, it sounds like a great idea. On paper. But not really, I suppose, as I’m told the book is no better.

The writing comes off as pretentious. Many other films have done the “I’m not like other girls, I like horror movies” trop to much greater effect. Our main characters love interest (?) too quickly glosses over the fact that his sister was killed just because they say the same horror movie name at the same time. Not the cutest meet cute. It was done somehow better in Batman V. Superman.

The idea that women and men would become zombies at different points during the day is actually an interesting thought. I didn’t hate that part. Execution though? I can’t say I was impressed.
I can’t and won’t speak to the book. Maybe we will go over it in our reading section one day. From what I’ve been told, don’t hold your breath.

We give Fetish Factory 2 nipple tastles out of 5.
