A Slaughter of Monsters
Cabin in The Woods. Arguably one of the best modern horror films in my opinion. A funny, dark and surprising take on the slasher genre. So, what would you do in that scenario? How would you handle it? That is a question that Monster Slaughter can answer for you! The only twist? You play as the Monsters!
That’s right! You get to play as a slew of monster families who’s mission is to kill a number of fun tropes…I mean kids! You’ll be chasing them around a well thought out gameboard as you slice, dice, and shoot your way through room after room looking for them. You and your friends will choose which family you’ll play as and then secretly set an order for which teens you’ll kill. Follow the order and you’ll earn more points.
Where the game is interesting to me is how demented it can get. You can use very cards to “save” the humans by scaring them into another room when a friend gets too close to killing them. You want those points so you need to make sure they die in your order, right. A false sense of security has never hurt some cardboard and plastic anyways.
To me the best part of this game is just how amazing it makes you feel. You get to play as the baddies. You get to do spooky shit. You get to live out your best classic movie monster fantasies! Truly a great game with great replayability. I played it at GenCon the year before release. I loved it so much that i let someone buy it for me as a birthday present. I know….I’m just selfless that way.
Rating: Take a trip to a secluded cabin with a seemingly forced group of diverse friends and play this game.
