The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Boardgame
At GenCon this year we had the absolute pleasure and joy to participate in Funko Games “Ultimate Night of Horror”. The event consisted of demoing the Scream board game, Universal Monsters Funkoverse, Five Nights at Freddy's, and most importantly The Texas Chainsaw Massacre board game. There were horror movies playing while we had cocktails and drinks.
Our favorite part, aside from being with likeminded people that love horror as much as we do, was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre game.
The game is set up as a semi-prequel to the original movie. Four people play as unnamed survivors while a fifth plays the Sawyer family. I got to play the family and it was amazing. Thematically, it worked so well. The survivors had to find car parts, keys, and gas to escape. In the game we played, the survivors had a very good chance to escape, but, in true Texas Chainsaw fashion, there truly was no hope.
Damage cards are divided into arm, head, foot, and heart. Get all and you die. They will also fundamentally alter the game. One player had all parts, then I broke their arm. The parts were lost. How great is that?
If you love horror movies, if you love board games, you will love this game. There are multiple scenarios to play. We only got to play the one, but it was more than enough for me to want to purchase it.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre the Board Game releases this September and will be $29.99. A deal that kills in my opinion.
